Hello, I've read a few posts about repowering a 560 with a 354 Perkins. Has anybody actually done it? Problems they encountered? What needed changed? Thanks!

I am sure it can be done, the 354 non turbo or 374 Perkins[that was the 750 Massey combine engine] would be a nice fit.In a project like this, a good old tape measure will pretty much tell you if it will fit, the reason i say non turbo is so you don't have to fit that under the hood,if your short of height.

I have an early 656 gas that needs an engine too. Choices I have on hand so far, GM 6.2 V-8 diesel, Perkins 318 cube four from an MF 540 combine, and a Cummins 5.9 from a rusted Dodge pickup. Decisions, decisions! LOL

Diesel Tech, what do u think of a Allis - Chalmers 301 turbo diesel, I know one thing their tough on cavitation on the sleeves, but a pretty sweet running engine?

AC 301 engines run well, have it in the AC 7000 tractor. Not impressed on how they start cold though, they need help when other direct injection diesels don't.

Because back in the day Perkins had an engine factory in South Aftica, political pressures forced several models of Deere tractors sold in So. Aftica to use a Perkins engine. I expect the same was true for Farmall tractors. Thus there may well be 560's in existence with the Perkins 354 engine in them. Do some googling, keeping in mind the So. Africa thing.

Thank you for the replies and the information that you guys have provided. Looks like we've got several options though so that's much appreciated

It's just so darn easy to use an IH 360, compared to the other options. Cheap motors everywhere, and reliable.

I put a 354 out of a 510 combine in our 560 in 1986 had to custom make the flywheel, redrill a couple holes in backplate and run steering shaft on out side of frame everything else is pretty much cut and dried, machined flywheel to take std IH pressure plate and fibre disk for 706 and 560 diesel ring gear you do not want to use the button clutch because you want the clutch to slip before things break, been running on our farm for 30 plus years must be right
