No choke, No joke

Some of you may remember my post about converting my M to 12 volt with alternator and electronic ignition. I never dreamed it could start so well. I have
noticed that I do not need to choke it to start. 17 degrees the other morning after a night of 7 degrees and it started, without choking and smoothed out
immediately. WHY? Ellis

A couple probabilities:
1) The mixture is set really rich. Pull the plugs and check to see if they are well carboned.
2) The float needle leaks a bit, leaving a 'priming charge' sitting in the carb.

My SMTA the float needle leaks a little and it does the same thing and I a running points and 12 volts. I have to shut off the gas or itwill leak. Just
another thing to fix in the spring.

Well with 12 volts you have the fact the engine spins over almost twice as fast as 6 volts so they tend to start easier. My Oliver S88 starts very easy and has since I have had it and most of the time you cannot get your hand off the starter button fast enough

I notice the same thing with my SMTA converted to 12 volt and EI. I had been around old Ms that rolled over really slow, and generally started. With the SMTA I pull the choke clear out when rolling it over but push it back as soon as it catches. Each tractor is different

My 100 (converted to 12 volt with Electronic Ignition) is like that most of the time. I MIGHT need to use the choke when it is below 10 degrees but only for a few seconds.

Most of the letter series (M and H) will start with no choke. If you do choke it, it will usually flood. My 2 Hs and 1 M will all start with no choke in similar temperatures as you describe. The Hs will require a bit of choke AFTER starting, but very little.
