Farmall M Engine Mystery

Trying to figure out what these letters mean on the stamping of this m block and why if it is a U code block which would be 51 that it has a 4 digit serial number. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That is a Mystery block, to me too. There was 1 other one that didn't make sense to me, that's on a 42 M Farmall.Whats the serial number of the tractor ?

Think Jim Warehime asked me about the engine. I didn't recall seeing any thing like that when on the phone but remembered later seeing something like that before. Looked in my notes for the information. M tractor serial number 238101X1, engine # 1061ME, block casting # 6722DJ, date code on block 2-25-T. Don't know if anything was below serial number. This tractor was at the last redpower roundup Missouri hosted, maybe the owner looks at YT. Can't scrape paint on another persons tractor to check the block number real close without permission. Would like to know why also. If tractor engine followed the normal pattern for that tractor serial number the engine number would be 228101X1. Didn't put anything down for the engine number prefix but usually don't add that unless different than FBKM. Have looked at a bunch of serial numbers over the years, one you posted and I posted is only ones known by me.

And take a look at the production numbers for the first document. What is a MOD M? So, don't jump the conclusions that is short for Model M. It isn't. Look closely. VERY low production numbers.

I also searched all the suffix listings in the posted documents on the archives. I see no reference to the suffix "ME".

Using an old Laugh In line: "verrrrrrry interesting".

Think the modified M tractors they refer to is ones built after regular M production stopped. M ones started at serial number 300001 and engines at 285001. Have seen 2 M chassis with road grader equipment added that fall into that category.

My mistake there was modified M tractors before 300001. What I get for trying to go by memory without double checking anymore.
