Super m grill

Yes I saw that Jim. Is the size the same? Bolt pattern and such? I have to find replacement for mine and ran across smta grill. Would prefer sm but so expensive to find good one.

I don't have actual knowledge of any fit issues between them and do recall this has been discussed before on this forum. I recall from those threads that at some point after the unique grill for the SMTA was introduced on late Super M's along with the SMTA noted by Jim that IH only supported the Farmall M series variants with replacements of what is known as the SMTA grill. I have seen that grill on straight M tractors as well so don't believe there is a fit issue of the grille between any of those tractors. I always thought the SMTA grille was the most sought after one which commanded the higher price. I don't believe there are any fit issues but it seems you are seeking a grille style which was original to your Super M before the SMTA style was introduced on the later ones and if so I'm sure with a little time one can be easily found as that grille is also common to the one on later straight M tractors which were produced in such large numbers, Hal.
 
Just adding to other posts. Unless you need some M real early types with deutz fasteners or a different fit to hood or different radiator cap hole for overflow pipe all the other hoods will fit and bolt on. Most hoods used on SM and M differed in the mounting hole location for emblem. Same emblem SM to SMTA except most SM had 2 less holes in grill than the SMTA ones for later use with a later type implement bracket.
 
As super m and a m grill are the same other then the badge on the front. I have bought 2 very nice m/sm grills for under $125 each in the past year. The smta grill is the expensive and harder grill to find.
 
Thanks guys. I knew about the emblem differences but knew I could fix that. Looking for SM but it's good to know the later m was the same.
If anyone know of somewhere to purchase one please let me know.
