Farmal 656 cam gear removal

Finally tore into my c263 and am having problems getting the cam gear off. There is not a good lip for the gear puller to catch on, anyone have any tips/tricks to get it off? Also, I thought these engines had sleeves, this one looks like it does not have them....I have heard the combine engines did not have sleeves, maybe a prior owner swapped the motor? I can send pics is anyone is interested.

Why do you want to pull the cam gear off ??? is it bad?? If you want to remove the cam pull the rockers and push rods and tappets and dist and oil pump and it will side out , if the gear is bad then see above and do that also . If you do not have a bearing spliter or as some call them a CHEESE SLICER pull the cam . Other wise start looking for a new gear as your going to need one.

Once the cam is out of the engine, I'd imagine that you'd use a press to remove the gear from the cam, if there is a valid reason to do so.

Like tractor vet said, you are more than likely going to break the cam gear trying to pull it with a gear puller.

I just pulled and replaced a D-282 cam gear, on the engine I used two roll head bars in the gear holes. Crank is seized so cam could not be turned for the plate bolt access. After the cam was out I replaced the gear with a better one after heating the gear in an oven so it would go on the cam easier. Just make sure the thrust plate is on first.

Took the bolts out behind the gear and the cam popped right out..... Thanks for the assistance, I'm sure I'll be posting again, this is my first rebuild......If it all does not go back together, I'll have a pile of parts.... :)

Need some help to determine what year/size of engine from the casting number. Cast # is 532880R1... Engine does not have sleeves, and was expecting it to have them so kind of curious to what I have here..... Thanks

Well i have no books on casting codes so that is of no help to you , but if it has no sleeves then it would either be ca combine engine of a engine out of and 806 . Sooooooooo look at the machined surface by the oil filter base and below the dist. and see what it is stamped as it should say cid. as like C263-4 or C301 . so it seams at one point in time someone did not want to rebuild and just repowered taking the easy way out . Then creating a nightmare for the next guy .

That casting number shows it is a BD240 truck block. Who knows how it got there. Now comes the problems the Tractor Vet is saying. That engine is the same bore, but is only 240cubes. So it has to have a different crank. So now you need to check the stroke to see what you have there. Then what pistons & head. The last owner could have had a cracked block and that is all that changed, but who knows. That is a good chance & would be the best out of all the things that could have happened.

Found another set of numbers, 1 13B L2 I'm assuming that the L2 means 1965, based on a table I found....any clue as to the 1 and the 13B, or is there something else I'm going to find?
