Super H casting codes

Hey guys! So I am on the hunt for a stage II Super H...Found a nice looking one about 3yrs away and if it's as nice as the guy says, I will probably buy it. However, he said all the casting codes are February/March '54, except the transmission housing which is November '53. Would that be a red flag to you or considered normal to have one here or there that is a few months off? I'm guessing it's normal but just wanted to get your opinions. I would rather have all '54 castings but this one is the closest I've found and the price is right. Thanks for the input!
 
Bought my H many years ago, from an old IHC mechanic. later found out the engine and front is 1950, the rear transmission is 1951. I don't know, but he may have put the different years together himself.
 
Unless that casting was lost in the trip from foundry through machining, to assembly, the part has been replaced. If you are going for perfection, I would look further. Personally it is irrelevant. Jim, Stage 1 owner.
 
Sounds normal. The Super H was assembled well into 1954. And tractors were assembled from castings poured generally a month or two before. So Feb/March date codes on a stage II SH are reasonable. But don't be concerned if you find one or more castings with late Y (1953) codes - this too is pretty much normal.

Incidentally I own one each early (stage I) and late (stage II) Super H. Once of the best tractors of that era!
 
Very normal and lucky to only have one 53 date code on castings for a Feb. built tractor. Have a later Jan. built 226xx with only one or two codes not 53. Had a 24xxx once with some Y codes.
 
Matt, that is normal. I recently purchased a super mta diesel serial 60,3xx. It has primarily January and first week February casting codes but a few are late 53 as well example is the upper front bolster it is November 53 but is the proper notched bolster used on smta tractors. The engine is also 53. A friend has a 62,xxx smtad which would be March 54 and his uses alot of late 53 codes as well. IH didn't throw alot away...
