715 combine engine --- good for a 560 ?

I have a chance to buy an engine out of a wrecked 715 for a reasonable price. I own 2 560s. One a 1962 gas and the other a late 1963 diesel with a dealer installed turbo. I am not sure what engine it has[the combine] but it is a diesel. I asked the guy who owns it if it has glow plugs and he didn't know. He bought it for parts. If it is a 282 would it be fairly simple to use in one of my tractors? I figure if I put it in the gas I would need at least some parts from a diesel 560. Neither need an engine right now but as we all know that could change today lol. I was considering getting it for future use. I just thought I would ask for your thoughts/advice since some of you have way more knowledge on this subject than I will ever have. Thanks for any help ,Lee

If it is a glow plug engine it will be a D301 not a 282 but they are the same only the 301 has no sleaves. It will work but you need to change the timing cover and its backing plate which involves pulling the injection pump and some of the gear train off the front of the engine. You also need to change the oil pan and pick up tube. If its a D310 it will not work be sure of what it is.

If it's the D-301 it will fit, I put one in a 460D utility years ago and brother still has it. As mentioned the front timing case front and rear plates need to be from a 560D as the combine parts are different.

You would probably need a 301 block bored for oversize OD 282 sleeves which are available for both early slip fit sleeve blocks and late heavy press fit sleeve blocks. If I recall there's .002, .005, and .010 OD sleeves available. A D-282 service manual for the 706 tractor explains the changes as that tractor used both early or late block.

Thanks again Dieseltech. I used a couple of the oversize O.D. sleeves years ago when working on a 460. The crazy thing was the oversize sleeves cost less than the standard and they were both in TRW boxes! That was 20+ years ago so I have no idea today.
