Farmall super A governor

Hello
I have a 1953 Super A
I use it to mow the grass
The governor does not react right away
then over reacts and does not slow down as soon as it should
I have adjusted the linkages that did not make much difference
I have not taken it apart yet
What do I need to fix it??
Just the springs??
thanks
I have had it 4-5 years and this is a new development

There are several bearings and bushings as well as springs in the governor. Any or all of them may be worn and need replacement. They also often wear out the hole case where the shaft goes over to the carburetor, which might need to be drilled out and a bushing installed to correct it.

Make sure that the flyweights pivot freely and none of the parts are binding. Parts are available from a CaseIH dealer.

There is a governor set up procedure to follow in the service manual. A properly set up governor can make a world of difference in governor performance.

Thanks
sounds like need to tear it down first
I have parts manual and service manual
I just thought perhaps might just be springs
sounds like could be more serious

Red Dave cover it good. The thing I have found on most is the thruster bearing that rides on the shaft and is pushed by the weights. Have seen them just fail when worn very bad. It means going inside the case to see what you need. oldiron29

before you tear down set the linkage correct as follows With engine off remove the pin in the clevis going to the carb. Now open throttle and adjust the clevis while holding carb rod open so the pin goes back in. Post what that does to the operation of the engine

I have tried adjusted the linkage per the book
it did not make much difference
I also moved the rod from one extreme to the other
still did not make much difference
then put back per the book

Our A acted the same way. The Torrington roller bearings
in the long "nose" going to the carb. side of the engine
were rusted & tight enough to affect the governor action.

This can be checked when you take the governor off.

Ok that sounds interesting
linkage seems to move ok by hand
will check that out also
was hoping to be able to get parts first
but it seems I will have to tear down first
thanks
