Thanks everyone who has been helping me out along the way. I thought I would share some pictures from this afternoon. The ice is building up outside, but I'm warm inside watching the Chief's game : )

All the bearings cleaned up nicely, and there was virtually no freeplay in them. That rust you see was mostly on the outside of the bearing cage. It fell off when I cleaned it.

This morning I removed the scavenging valve and filter to clean the top of the pump where the excess diesel gets sent through a small gallery to the scavenging valve. There was a lot of slime and rust particles in that area.

I'm glad I decided to go through it. I found the oil seal at the front of the pump was worn to pieces. I'll have to make a set of gaskets for the pump. It's good to know how exactly the pump works, and as an engineering student it is really impressive how someone came up with this idea.

Here's another question for you guys, when I put the plunger back together I was unsure of which way to have the plunger turned. I tried to figure out how the spiral grove would let fuel pass by when turned, but it seemed like it would be the same either way. Could it be 180 degrees off? I found a picture online and alligned it the way they had theirs. Any advice?
