Any H question....

Putting the temp. and oil gauges back on. We replaced the temp. gauge about 20 years ago. The trim on it is chrome. The oil gauge I believe might be original. It has the part no under the IH logo and has Rochester on it. It just looks original. The funny thing on this gauge is the trim was black and appeared the be original.

My question, does anyone know if the trim or out band on the gauges back in 49 were flat black?

Any help is appreciated. I am trying to get this as close to original as possible.

I have an all original'low hour' SuperH. The gauges have black faces and silver/'chrome' outer rings.

I have an all original high hour stage I '53 SuperH. The gauges have black faces and silver/'chrome' outer rings. Components
of this post attributed to Delta Red, Thanks for saying (almost) what I was going to. Ours was sat on by me when new. Jim

I have a few NOS IH temp gauges that are flat black. They are packed in original boxes with wax type paper.

i may not had be clear, the face was flat black, but the trim ring or outer rim was also painted flat black.

I put all new gauges (IH) in my Super C close to 20 years ago, all black back ground with chrome rings. Bought 2 new gauges for my Super M about 8 years ago, black bk ground and chrome rings, didn't replace the amp gauge, was IH black back ground with black ring and didn't look very old.

I only remember chrome bezels. I would not be surprised at all if a different suppler was used in later years for the gauges than the originals. I know black are easier to find now for cars, than chrome.
