Putting together an H and am repainting. Does the light switch box need to be grounded to the steering post? I painted post on tractor, but painted the light switch box off the post.

Any help is appreciated

Yes grounded and post to deck and light clamps to light bar. all of these will cause
problem with painting. If it is a mag the switch will need to be ground also to kill
mag.

Thanks, I grounded the post to deck and light bar to post by cleaning good the bare metal and then painted. I guess I will be sanding some paint off the post at switch box location.

Though not "as made" putting nice grounding straps on them is more reliable and In My opinion, easier and less prone to rust.

Brain is fried this morning, too much pain. Unless you ae doing something non factory, no the box doesn't need to be grounded, but the post does. The grounding for the lights is done on the light bar, so that has to have a good ground to the post.

You had it the first time. If it has a cut-out charging system, which many Hs did, it needs the ground. For the high charge rate to function, the field grounds to the light switch, the switch to the cover, cover to the box, box to the post, etc.

You were correct the first time. The original post didn't indicate the year or if it had a 4 position light switch, that does ground through the cover. Jim
