FARMALL STAGE 1 SM-LP

Found a stage 1 sm lp that I am thinking about getting. Has all the factory coding on engine and serial plate. Has the cross tank with all the correct plumbing and Ensign fuel system. Question is what is the proper starter for a stage 1 lp? Did they use the standard starter or the gear reduction starter? Anyone have any pics of there stage 1 sm-lp tractors?
 
My guess is that it uses the standard gas starter. My reasoning is that IIRC the engine in that early factory SM had the gasoline head and would not have the high compression of the LP head used later. There may be 12v starters used on 4XX LP tractors, but I would think there were no OEM gear reduction starters used (there are no geared starters mentioned as solutions for M slow cranking). Jim
 
Jim are you branching out from diesel? If so looked up some info for you. Date on picture right in way of starter type but think you can make out. Parts books kind of confusing on LP starters. Need to look past picture numbers and to unnumbered parts to find starter operating parts and gear reduction parts listed if I remember correct. Don't know if online parts has them listed or not.

Thanks Dave, yeah I'm thinking of branching out a bit from the diesels. There is only one more diesel that I really want for the collection and that's a 52smd, so I figure I'll start looking for something else to mess with. Dont see much red lp stuff up in these parts so might be neat to have one. Tractor runs great but needs a little cosmetic work.
