B414 Brakes- seals?

I am helping with a 63 model B414. Has absolutely no brakes. Took one side apart and it is soaked in grease/oil from the trans. I do not see a seal, and did a search- do you really have to pull the whole bull pinion shaft assembly out to replace what ever is in there that seals the splined shaft?

Seal is Key #3. I have a later model (424) and have never been in there, but it does appear the "cage" has to be removed to replace the seal. (Scroll DOWN.)

Just FYI, on my Farmall H I found someone had removed the seals from my steering chamber, releasing all the oil/grease. I figured where the seals ought to be, installed some, all was well. But it may be someone possibly removed your seals?? For some odd reason?

Yes, it is a big job. If memory serves the hydraulic top cover needs to come off so the bull gear can be removed / pull back to allow the pinion carrier to be removed. Good luck, Sam

Teddy 52- nope, not dad's 414, it's still got brakes last time I used it. He is doing pretty good for 87.

The tractor is a long way from me and I am looking in to this for someone else. We have the brake assemblies off. Looks like we are in for a big job. Tractor is in rough shape but the engine runs great and it has decent tires. Needs a complete re wire.

For what it's worth, I had oil soaked discs on my B414 and used a propane torch to burn the oil off. The heat will drive the oil out and burn it. Just keep it hot enough to get rid of the oil. Did this a long time ago and the brakes are still working good.New discs are not that expensive if yours are worn out. I think on fleabay about $20 each for new.
