SMTA and vents

Question on venting of the hydraulic valve body and the transmission. Should they be vented?
Transmissions on my A, C and H are not but this mta has a trans fill plug with a vent but does not appear stock.
The hydraulic valve fill cap has a 1/16'' hole drilled in it, I assume for venting, but that doesn't seem proper with out some type of breather.
This is a fairly new, to me, tractor that I am refurbishing.
Been working on it about 1.5 years and hopefully be ready for some paint come spring.
thanks
Dennis

The owner's manual for my "H" says to stick some felt or scrap wool or similar inside the hydraulic fill cap, to act as a dust filter. The 1/16" hole is all it needs, I can hear the air venting in and out just fine. I cut a piece of a tail off a LL Beam flannel shirt years ago and stuck that in, has worked perfectly, vents just fine, has kept the oil clean for 30 years. Never worry about it. Never clean it.
Have never tried to rig a vent for my transmission, I think the gaps and spaces and bolt holes and all, act as a small air expansion / warm-up / cool-down vents. Has worked just fine, never worry about it.

Thank you for the replies guys, they both make perfect sense.
I hadn't thought of the shifter but should have know.
And you are right barnyard, water in/air out.
Thanks
Dennis
