Shop-Vac brand cleaner: how to keep paper filter on

Back in the day, the shop-vac brand paper filters came with a large rubber band to hold the filter in place. That loose plastic ring they include now doesn't do the trick...filter drops and as I look behind me a large dust cloud is forming. Anyone know of a good source for a couple rubber bands? Or another solution? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Walmart,Staples any office supply store will have the over size rubber bands in stock. Or just tie a dozen regular size together to make one big one.

Al, Go to a good hydraulic shop that rebuilds various larger hydraulic components and get a proper sized o-ring. You could probably find one from a supplier on-line if you can identify the size from the part number as well. Maybe find an old inner tube of the necessary diameter for the shop vac and just cut a 1/2" or 1" wide strip off the inner tube should work fine. A tire shop with ag tires should be able to come up with the right size as that rubber has some good stretch also, Hal.

Motorcycle inner tube?Orings are a great idea...I have a 'boatload' of large Orings from IH hydralic filters.Mail you some?

On my vac, the filter is pushed up onto a plastic ring, under the motor unit. The filter I.D. slips over the ring. I wrap some Duct tape around the plastic ring to increase the diameter, so the filter stays pressed on.

Go onto shop-vac's website, they have the blue cartridge filters for 9.99 hypoallergenic wet or dry re-usable filters that won't
fall off. imo much better than the cloth and foam.

Even simpler. Take the tire tube out of an old bicycle. Cut in up
like squid. Need bigger rubber bands move up to a wheel barrow tube.
Make very tough rubber bands.
