Way too many digits to be a serial number.

The serial number could have three, four, five, or six digits.

In the serial charts, the FIRST serial number for each year is listed. When you get a valid serial number, it will fall between two numbers on the chart. The tractor was built in the year corresponding to the lower number in the chart.

Let's say you have some fictitional tractor serial 12345. Some fictitional chart lists 1948's first serial as 11275, and 1949's first serial as 21344. That means your tractor would have been built in 1948.

That's what I thought he's asking me about a starter I wonder if he took the number of the starter?

Thanks for the reply BarnyardEngineering
farmall m serial number from what I read is on a plate on the left clutch housing near the starter is that right? I'm not at all familiar with farmalls so bear with me
Thanks Byron

Most likely - The M used 1107448 Delco starter. Wonder if the starter is 1107448 and the tractor is 25775. I don't know, but yes, the start is a 1107448.
