I have the 197? IH 3500a loader that has hydro trans and the 239 diesel. I need a new injection pump. Found one its off a 84 hydro 239 tractor with a broken crank. Are they the same. Or will it work. The yellow one is mine. Thanks for all your help. Dale

What is wrong with yours ? Al Baker is on here some and has rebuilt a few for me with great success.

My Hydro 84 has the 246 engine. Either pump could be made to work, but what is wrong with yours? If it just leaks it can be resealed. My experience with salvage yard pumps is they need gone through also as most have stuck internal parts from setting. DO NOT force the levers when removing the linkage on these pumps or there's a good chance more internal damage will be done. Just went through a VA pump that has been setting awhile, and several parts were stuck inside. It's now repaired and ready to be installed on a 756.

My pump will not pump. Just picked up the loader as is. Don't run. Don't want to put a lot of money into it to see if it works. I have tried everything I know to make this pump work. The guy wants $ 275. For his pump.

How long since your pump worked to run the engine? Still could have some parts stuck inside keeping it from working. Plunger moving is a good sign that it may be worth repairing. It's a lot easier to repair one BEFORE some one with out knowledge of them tears into one blindly. Unless I see an engine run I consider any salvage yard pump needs at least resealed and tested before installing on an engine. I don't even set the timing on salvage yard pumps, as parts can be broken when turned, just remove them where they are and worry about timing later..

I have never had the engine running! Don't want to put a ton of money in to find out the hydro is shot. Just wanted to know if i can swap the pump. Talked to a diesel shop by me. He told me if I can't get it to pump on the tractor it proably won't pump on his bench. Just though I could get it running cheap. Was told a rebuilt pump was $1250.00 that's more then I paid for the loader.

I've saved a lot of them for three to four hundred, providing nothing is broken. That's torn down completely, all parts cleaned and inspected for wear, then re-assembled with all new gaskets and seals, then bench tested to reset speed, advance, and fuel settings, and returned. Still see a few that are too far gone to repair though, usually too much dirt/water damage..

Dale, I don't think we live that far apart. I would be glad to look at your pump for you. Just to look it over and tell you where you stand I wouldn't charge you a dime. Not sure, but this should help you stay in your budget.May even save you buying a used pump that might be worse than the one you have. I live 19 miles from Roy Myres yard. Didn't you get a WD45 from him? Al

If you would.. would you grab me a part off of that core pump??
Its the *stop screw*, bottom right screw w/ the plunger in it..
I'm rebuilding one and the screw is broken.. I'v been searching for 1 for a few days now..
Al nor DT has one either.. I'll make it worth your while.
Your going to need a 17mm & 10mm wrench..
Thank you.. TPG
