Engine preheater for 544 IH

Did the 544 diesel have a factory engine preheater and if not can one be installed, also what about the water heater was that a factory option or what is the best one to get? Just trying to stay away from using either, thanks again.

How about those magnet block heaters are they good or bad?

Never have liked the magnetic block heaters since most of the time they either do not work well or if put on the oil pan they burn the oil. The best you can have is the freeze plug type heater if it will fit in your engine that is. If that cannot be used the lower radiator type heater is 2nd best.

Hi, the 544 Diesel should have a German D-239 Diesel engine same as 674/684. On D-239 the top of heater can be connected to the water jacket on upper right front of engine and a heater house run down behind the fan. Mount the tank heater down in front of starter and bottom of tank heater connects to block drain just above starter.

I would recommend a tank heater like the one in link below, we have used them for years.

We have used a lower hose heater in the lower radiator hose for over 30 years now. On our 574 with the same engine.

Most of them are only 200 watts not much heat, useless out in the wind. I put mine on the oil pan of a tractor that has a block heater too. In a garage that works quite well.
