Another tractor

I just made a deAL for another tractor. :) 706D(282). Wide front,rollbar/canopy,3point,56 shifters, decent tires, good tin. But.........bad motor. The motor was running, useing a lot of oil, then it started knocking. The guy just parked it.Salvege/scrapper estimated it would be worth 600 across the scale. If I pick it up and save the trouble of hauling,He would let me have it for $450. Works for me. :)

Whooeee. That is a little too good. Well done. Sounds like a fine opportunity to make a buck this winter. Jim

Nice! I just picked up a 756 gas narrow front. I'm going to keep the gas engine, but have read much about swapping in a Cummins 5.9 or an International D360 or DT360. Maybe one of these days.....

Hope you get it going strong!

Good luck,
Bill

SIL just painted a 706 that has a cat V8, was completely disassembled engine out and all, engine is cat yellow will try to post a pic later, local tractor club is going to have a pot luck next week and the unveiling. Lots of curious people. Pete

Wide front alone is worth 450 if in decent shape, but you knew that already. Fantastic deal for a complete machine.

I wonder how that 282 would do at your altitude with a turbo.

Probably 80. My 'good' 706 with a 310 puts out 96 horse. The trouble is it gets hot. But it's got 'boo-coos' of power

Based on the comments, I'm assuming you are at a higher altitude and with it, the air density is such that for the given CFM through the radiator, you can't reject enough heat off it to keep the tractor cool?

If that's the case, you might be able to swap in a more efficient fan for not a ton of $$$'s and move more air - and perhaps quieter and maybe with less hp.

Google WingFan and/or Multi-Wing. They make some really nice axial fans and can easily custom size a fan for your hp and altitude expectations.

We are about 5200 ft in western Colorado. Water temp isn't the issue. It's exaust gas temperture. The exhaust temp can go 'through the roof' if I'm not careful and allow it to lug down/pull 'hard'.When the exaust temps start to go up,throttle down a bit,or downshift.Thank goodness I have a pyrometer, otherwise I would have melted it down a long time ago.
