Farmall F20 narrow tread

Hello,

i'm Casper Papenborg from Holland and I recently bought an F20 Narrow tread. serie number: fa50945N , I was wondering if someone can tel me
how many f20 narrow treads where build.

greetings from Holland!

Not a lot. Not sure if there records of that sort. They were mostly used in areas that raised narrower(30") row crops. I had a HAN (High altitude(pistons 5000 to 8000ft) Narrow tread) Was a pretty cool tractor. Broke my heart when I had to sell it.

Casper:
The F-20 tractor came out in 1932 beginning with S/N 501. The last one made in 1939 ended with S/N 148810. According to 150 Years of IH History the "FA" series was made from 1932 starting with s/n 501 and ending with s/n 6381 at the end of the year 1934. Apparently something in the production changed and the later series was changed from FA to TA to the end of their production. During that time the USA was in a depression and things were very tight. As a boy I spent a lot of hours on an F 20 baling hay with a New Holland baler for my Uncle. The one we had was cut over from steel to rubber right after the war and was very easy to start.
My cousin was killed in Holland during WW2 and is buried in Margraten. I have a nice picture of his stone.

If you have ever seen a normal F20. The narrow treads are very obvious.

My grandfather had a 1938 F20 narrow tread.

The regular width F20 is one that if it
isn't too wide to fit on a trailer that
isn't a deckover, it sure is close to being
too wide to fit on one. Very wide rear end,
like an H with the axles way out, except an
F20 doesn't have the long axles, just long
axle housings. An F20 narrow is like an H
with the wheels all the way in, will drive
right on your trailer no problem. The axle
housings are much shorter on a NT. I think
the pictures will tell well enough...

I have one, a 1937, a VERY nice original, I bought from the original owner's grandson who didn't want it. It still has all of the original red paint, original decals, and original 36" tires. I currently have the engine in my shop, waiting to rebuild it once I button up a couple other projects. I already have the new ball bearing mains on hand, and new valves, just need to get the rest of the stuff. I also bought a Farmall Regular NT at an auction just for the Behlen OD box on it, so I could put it on my F20, make it more usable. Already sold the Regular NT rear end, there was a LOT of interest in that. I hope to bump up the compression in the F20 a little when I do rebuild it, mill the head, etc, make it run a little better. Congrats on the purchase, you should like it.

Thanks for the pictures. I thought I might have a 1939 narrow tread out in the barn but it is a standard width axle with the rear wheels set in so the rims almost touch the drawbar. Ser# FA146990 with no NT on the tag.

Hi Casper, could you post a picture of your F-20? I think it may have been mine at one time. Did you buy it on an online auction?

Hi, I don't no how to post a picture here. If you send me your e-mail adress I can send you a picture by mail. I bought the tractor from a man that buys tractors in the usa and shipt it to Holland. So i don't now if the tractor comes from an auction.
