H4 magneto testing

I would like to remove the H4 magneto off of a tractor I am working on with the purpose of testing/cleaning it. I am not able to crank over the engine, so that is why I want to remove it to
test it. If I do this, I just have to re-install it with the rotor in the same position as when I removed it right? Any tips on bench testing it? Thank you.

Yes just make sure the rotor is pointed the same way and you will have no trouble putting it back. I put them in the vice and hook up one wire to a grounded plug as i use a batt drill to turn them over and can check the fire at different speeds when i have finished working on them cause if it fires you know when installing that it is ready to go. I have a used mag gear i use in the drill so its easy to chuck in the drill you could use asocket that fits the nut saw off the female end of a cheap extension to chuck in the drill to drive it when in the vice.
