Super M Front grill guard

After the guys hear easily talked me out of moving my front axle I may make a front grill guard and attach to the axle mount.
Did IH make one as accessory? I'd love to see pics of any you all have made.

Why not build something like this, and then make some side plates to attach it to the holes threaded on the sides of the front bolster? For added support, you could even attach an upper bracket to the cultivator bracket bolt holes in the upper portion of the bolster, through the grille. The middle portion could be constructed as is, or could be filled with some type of heavy duty steel mesh/expanded steel/etc. to keep small branches and sticks out.

When tractors were used exclusively for field work there was no need for a bumper. Later hobbyist and those who did utility work began damaging their grill and radiator some of the operators improvised all sorts of bumpers and soon the aftermarket folks made bumpers. I sold my Super C with a custom made bumper and the buyer gave me the bumper back as it did not fit in well with his restoration. A few years ago it was posted here that farmers did not need bumpers. My MF 165 has an aftermarket one and my Kioti came with one from factory.

I think a farmer has about as much use for a bumper on a tractor as he does an ashtray!! I was gonna say a cup holder but I knew someone would argue a cup holder is essential. LOL.

I had a friend who's dad ran a cotton gin, he used to tell me about using a JD popping johnny with a homemade bumper to move cotton bales around..about having to hit the bales wide open because the slick metal flooring made tractor tires slip. Good times...haven't thought of Gene in a while...may just call him now.

I'm doing paperwork at work and bored...thanks for the distraction. :D

Here's a home made grill on a 706 with a loader. It is bolted to brackets on frame. I also have a front hitch on my 450 which wouldn't be hard to make grill to fit hitch bracket.

Well needing a grill guard verses and just a idea to make something. When did need come into the picture when it comes to tinkering with
tractors. Fun fun.
