bought an old F4 mag off a parted out F20. Trying to get her to spark. I think the magnet lost a lot of it's 'magnetism'. Any easy way to recharge these puppies?

Thanks!

Any repair shop that repairs mags can recharge them. I think Nebraska Kirk that post's on here repairs them. Earl Lundin in SD repairs them too. You can email him at [email protected] or call him at 605-678-2694 or 605-880-0468. If you decide to pull the mag you need to make sure to make note of the rotor as to where its pointing. Then don't move the engine once the mag is removed. When you get the mag back you point the rotor to the same position when you removed it and reinstall it. If you don't think you can remember bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke and your rotor should be pointing to the No1 plug tower. Then don't move the engine and when you get the mag back point the rotor to the No1 plug tower and install it. Hal

well if you just pulled if off an old tractor sitting around a lot of times all it takes is to clean and file the points and regap to .013. also it may only need the condenser replaced, experienced this also. if you hold a screw driver to lower magnet and it attracts it should deliver spark. you can even pull the magnet off and clean all the dirt and grease from it. all the mags i have worked with and have never charged a magnet yet, but maybe lucky. good luck.

You dont need some fancy recharger to remagnatize the magnet. Take some wire and wrap it on the trademark side 15 - 20 times, cross ove to the non trademark side and wind the wire the opposite direction so that the ends of each wire are coming off the opposite dierction, put a peice of steel small enogh to just cover the legs of the magnet, and touch trhe two ends to a battery for just like 3 or 4 seconds. I had a pic of how to wrap tyhe wire, if I can find it Ill post it.

I have recharged many magnets by removing them from the housing and neatly wrapping one of those bubble packs of 16ga wire on them. I use a 6 amp 12V power supply. A second or 2 is all it takes to juice one back up.

I can recharge your magnet. If you want, send it off to me, I'll charge it, and return it. All you need to do is pay the shipping. No charge for the charge! LOL.

one other note. If you have a short piece of iron or soft steel that will span the 2 poles of the mag, place it on the bottom 2 poles of the magnet when you ship it. That is what is called a "keeper". Horseshoe mags will discharge if off the magneto without a keeper on it. If you don't have one, I will ship one with it that you can return after you receive your magnet back. Also, if you want, you can send the whole mag, and I'll go through it for you if you choose. Send me a private message if you are interested, and we can discuss details.
