Reverse hard to find in 1206

Picked my 1206 up today, got the steering working
enough to load it and reverse is hard to find but
goes in all forward gears fine so where do you start
looking for this problem, back to the steering what is
the best fix, a new pump or can you seal the old
one? This tractor runs very good and holds 50 lbs
oil pressure and the 3pt hitch works very good,
thanks again

Take the floor board out, and follow the linkage as it goes down, Either the roll pin in the top case is sheared, or just too much accumaleted wear, in the likage.

Thank you my man this is my 1st big Farmall and I've got my eye on a nice 544 row crop diesel next but I don't know a lot about them, thanks again

Take the cowl cover I guess you'd call it off, and look over the little ball joint linkages at the shifter. Not only do the joints get loose, but sometimes the jam nuts on the threaded portion get loose, and the joint just flops around instead of getting full travel from it. If you want it to be right, just start at the top, replacing and repairing everything on down, right down to pulling the trans covers and doing the bushings where the shift shafts go through the cover, and the shifter ramps under the covers. It's a bit of work, but worth it. I did an 806 top to bottom for an elderly neighbor. When I got done, he said he had to relearn how to shift it like back when it was new, no more flopping the shifter a certain way and wiggling it while working the clutch to get it in gear. Nothing beats having a nice tight shifting mechanism. Easy work too, just a little time consuming.

Here's a few pics needs to be cleaned up and checked out. I have the fenders in the shop and the side panel from the hood, going to adjust the reverse shifter but goes in all other gears good, it runs good and very good oil pressure but has old diesel in it, 20.8R38 on rear, what's she worth?

word to the wise- with sloppy shifting, be sure to put in neutral and let the clutch up BEFORE dropping the park lock. if it is still in gear and you drop the park first, it will take teeth off the reverse gear or break the park pawl when you let the clutch up. don't ask how i know.

More than likely the pivot in the range lid is worn. That is right under your feet setting in the seat. Pull the platform up and then the lid. The problem with the roll pin, would also not let you in any gear forward or reverse. The pivot is on the bottom side of the lid. You will be able to see the wear if you move the lever while watching before you pull the lid. To fix it you will either have to get a new lid or have yours bored and bushed. Then if there is any wear in the reverse fork slot on the top or any of the parts inside you need to replace them. If you just want a working tractor you can change it to a 56/66 series mechanism much better to shift. I have went through all this on an 806 for years and then made the conversion so much better.
Oh forgot there are a few rollers they call them that if they are broken or missing that will also caue your problem. One sets on the top of the range fork as you pull the lid off. If they fall off they go to the bottom.
