This isn't any good

This morning I adjusted the TA in my Farmall 350 because the drivetrain would stay bound up when
disengaging the main clutch and you couldn't get it out of gear unless you released the TA clutch.
So, I set everything by the book and a few short forward/backward passes in the driveway confirmed
that everything was working correctly. But, then I heard and felt a chattering whenever the main
clutch was engaged. Upon taking the top cover off I found this broken ear on the TA clutch where
one of the levers mounts. The lever, which was somewhat banged up, could be lifted right out. I
thought I could maybe remove the other two levers but it doesn't act like they want to come out.
The tractor can be driven in the current condition but it vibrates and I know that there are a
couple of little pieces floating around in there. Looks like a split is in the near future . . .

That sucks. Just got done doing a complete reseal and check over of the trans and rear end on my 450, and reseal and new bearings along with new TA as well. You're right you have some work in your future. That TA clutch doesn't look that old, what's up with that?

My Dad put in a remanufactured TA about five years ago when he acquired the tractor from a widowed family friend. I don't know if what I did with adjusting it put a little more pressure on the ears and a weak spot finally let go or what. Fortunately for the checkbook it will just be a clutch replacement, not the entire TA. About the same amount of work, though.

Every week there are TA issues on here - it makes me cringe. Yours looks fairly new or not abused. One or the other. I plowed terraces with the 886 yesterday and five bottom plow. I couldn't count the number of times I threw the TA black for one reason or another. One of these days I won't be so lucky.

I would try something a little out there,a nickel rod and weld the shaft to the broken ear stub, what can go wrong?

Thoughts along that line crossed my mind but when this beaten-up lever came right out and the intact ones wouldn't come out it was apparent that to put it together right means taking it completely apart.

Taking the intact levers out wouldn't have achieved anything useful anyway. The TA clutch needs to release in order for the tractor to shift whether the TA is any good or not. Without those levers the TA clutch will never release.

The job to replace it isn't all that bad. Just a single split at the bell housing. Everything else you need to get at can be accessed through the bell housing once it is split.
