Finally had a chance to work on the rebuilt carb yesterday. Soaked it in B12 overnight and it must have softened and loosened whatever it was that was causing the problem. I put it on this morning and it works great now! Drove it around for about an hr to work on the next problem. I had pulled the plug on the rear end/transmission and about a half to 3/4 of a gallon of water ran out, then some very very nasty smelling thick crud. So after letting that drain out overnight earlier this week, I filled it up with diesel after getting the carb on and started driving it around. Found out 2nd gear has intermittent grinding noises and 5th gear jumps out of gear. Badly.
I reck'n we get to pull the cover off next.

Also, oil pressure on the engine is very low. Barely out of the red at high idle, in the red at idle. Checked it with gauge and it's around 10 lbs at idle 20 at high idle. I've been told they never had great oil pressure but that seems kinda low.

I was thinking that a healthy Ms oil pressure ran close to the top of the gauge.

While you have the cover off, you can get some 2' wood shims and scrape out the gunk and stuff in the bottom of the housing, and scooch it out the rear drain hole. I had lots in my 1950 "H".

My M and one of my H's runs close to the top of the gauge. My other H is tired and runs toward the bottom of the gauge.

30 Psi would be fine but 20 is low.
On the first m I bought, I took the oil pan
off for inspection and looked at the oil
pump too. Found the drive shaft heavily worn
on the gear side. Made new shaft for it.
Also have found a couple of m-450 tractors
with nearly plugged oil pickup screens.

Pilot bearing could be badly worn or failing
in trans.

We did have the pan off and cleaned all the sludge etc from the screen. Not knowing exactly what to look for as far as wear and tear other then the bearings etc I don't think we checked the oil pump that good. May just drop the pan in the near future and take another look. Gasket leaks anyway.

I'm going to start another post on the transmission with a short video as to how much play there is on the shaft.
