Hate not knowing how stories end so..... Thursday we drove 775 miles round trip to KY and got our son a cub. He turns 14 in a week or so. We got tractor from a guy who got it when he was 14. It has new battery, all new wires, belt hoses. Carb rebuilt and new fluids. Purrs like a new one! Came with all 4 wheel weights. And tons of manuals (reprints). Bubba (our son) wants a belly mower or sickle bar for it. Wants to cut field at church. Also needs paint. Looks orange. He drove it all over yesterday. Good to see kids loving old tractors.

Not bashing, but the trailer tongue looks very short in the top pic. The tractor tires should be able to clear the bed if turned very short. If the tire can hit the bed, it can climb up and smash the operator. Jim

You are right. Trailer was a pop up camper. Now a hayride trailer. Works nice behind our fords. Got 3 point hitch with receiver hitch on em. Keeps it far enough back. No good on cub. He already turned too sharp and hung the tire up. Trailer is off there until we add on to tongue.

Even with a long one you can turn too short its just another thing driver needs to learn next people will be wondering where the seat belt and rops system is. Something just need to be taught to the operator. When i was 10 i was driving a f-20 pulling tandem disc with harrow for planting corn so you learn those things early.

Wait till you find out the price of those belly mowers! A sickle bar is a very neat piece if you totaly rebuild it so it will cut a piece of paper like a pair of scissors. Also be very carefull letting it down from the stowed position and putting it back up when you are done mowing. You can remove fingers very easily. Almost any part for a sickle mower can be found on fleabey. New old stock stuff all over the place if you dig around. Just ask us on here if you need any help. Looks like he is in love.

(quoted from post at 22:50:18 11/19/16) Darn. Runs so nice we didn't notice. Lol.
Nice acquisition. You didn't notice the noise because a Cub without a muffler makes about as much noise as an H with a muffler. Kind of a nice throaty sound.

Well Gene, I agree with the sentiment of education. I disagree with the principle of exposure to bad practice as a method of instruction. I am not a believer in building so much safety into equipment that it becomes unusable. I too operated a 16' spike drag with the tool bar chains in a wide V. I was taught well. Until a young operator's awareness of every point of attention while operating a rig becomes ingrained there is no reason to allow it to become dangerous. Jim

You can just put an extension plate on the drawbar that will help a bunch they usually move the hitch point back around 8in easy to make.

For those of you who noticed and commented......we fixed the hayride wagon. Cut 18 inches or so off front. You can see where our son had already scrubbed it hard. Thank you for noticing, caring, and commenting!!

Good choice! I painted my Dad's 200 when i was a bit older than him. Get him a spray gun, some good paint, and don't forget the mask! He'll never forget what you did for him.

One thing to remember, a cub only weighs about 1400 pounds, and it doesn't take many people on a trailer to out weigh it. Stopping going down a hill can get interesting, even if the brakes are working good.
