IH without power steering - add loader?

I'd like to add a loader to an International 340 Utility. It's a wide front without power steering and is easy to easy to steer when moving but harder when standing still. I can't find a power steering unit for it. Will it be really difficult to steer with a loader on it, particularly when there is a load in the bucket? Difficult enough so that I should abandon the idea of adding the loader?

If its the same steering as my 300U then I would avoid a loader. Yes it will steer hard and be hard on the steering components. I had a lot of damage on my 300U from a loader when I got it.

Yes it will be a good bit harder to steer. Only way it will steer easy is if the loader has power down and then you lift the front end off the ground then turn the wheel the way you want to go then lift the load back up and go. No power steering and a loader are not a good mix on any tractor

How strong are your arms? We had an M on the farm that had a loader and no power steering and we didn't think anything of it, just don't try to turn the wheels unless you are moving. A big counterweight on the back will help some, and it would be pretty helpless without it anyhow.

I got a 340 with a loader, it's a poor choice, a old M, with power steering will do more on accident, than the 340 will do on purpose, take the money the power steering is going to cost you, and buy something with a power steering unit on it. But i got a 1,000 lbs , 4 feet behind the rear axle, hanging off the Farmhand brackets.

I have had a loader on a Massey Ferguson 35 without power steering for 8 years now. It is not easy to turn while moving, and impossible when stopped, but it gets the job done. 98% of the time I have forks on it instead of the bucket and use it to move logs in the sawmill yard or load them on wagons in the woods.

I grew up with a 300u and a 340u.Neither had power steering, the 300u had a loader. Both steered hard without the loader, and the 300u was a bear with the loader on.But you learned to steer while moving, and I was able, as a kid, to load manure with the 300u.But I now have a 485 with a loader and power steering and have sold the 300's loader.Nowadays,I have enough steering the 300u with no loader.
As Janicholson said,a Jackson power steering unit would be the ticket.I have actually been wanting to see one closeup on a tractor like mine.Mark

Thanks to all for the advice and comments. The addition of power steering and the loader with bucket will run about $1,500, and wouldn't seem to add that much to the value of an old (1959), but nicely running tractor. I'll have to rethink making the change. Thanks again!

For a small amount more than the cost of all that you could find a tractor with the loader and power steering. Just have to look some more. A 574 is not a bad loader tractor just need lots of weight on the back. Ours has about 1200 in iron on the inside and outside of the wheels and chloride in the tires with 18.4-28 tires.
