Replacement for my 826 Farmall

I have a 1971 826 that I primarily use to pull a Bush Hog 2615 mower. The tractor has over 7,000 hours and I don't believe it has been overhauled. It does fine pulling the cutter clipping pastures, but is short on power when I mow heavier CRP fields. Tractor data shows it weighs 9,860 pounds with 92 PTO HP.

I am looking for a newer tractor with cab, air, and mfwd. What models of 10-15 year old tractors should I consider? I want to stick with CaseIH since they have a dealer close to my farm. Since the 826 is short on power for mowing CRP, should I consider more Horsepower and if so, how much more or do you think the age is hurting my power production?

Thanks for the opinions.

Put it on a dyno and see what it got for power, I pull a single wing 10 foot rotary mower with a 806 Turbo, about 108hp, if i hear its pulling a little bit, i look back and the slip clutches are smoking, maybe you're a little short of power !! How big is your Bush Hog ?

The MX110 or MX120 sound like what you want from your description. They are a rugged tractor and from my experience with my MX120 they put out the HP. it is getting tough to find the older 5100 and 5200 series tractors in any better shape than what you already have. Good MX Maxxums are even starting to become scarce.

Something doesn't sound right. Your 826 must be really worn out. I pull a 2615 bush hog batwing in light grass to heavy brush and small trees with a 400 farmall with 450 pistons. Granted I do use all the gears and T/A as needed.

I don't have access to a dyno, but that is a good idea. If I knew how many HP it was turning I could size more appropriately. A 2615 bush hog is 15' wide. I have to gear down to low 3 to pull it in CRP and at times, have to pull the torque.

Yes, but have you tried it in CRP with horse weeds 12' tall or more? I don't have trouble at all clipping pasture or cutting brush.

Are the blades sharp, and does the front edge of the blade path cut at least 3/4 of an inch lower than the rear edge. If not it will cut everything 3 or 4 times. Jim

IMHO, you have too big a mower on the 826. Go down to a 10'. Or get a (over) 100 horse tractor to have adequet power for 15 ft..Like a 1086,or 4430.If you want to stay with a 80 to 90(under 100 horse) a 886,986 or JD 4030,4040,4230 would serve well.

At 7000 hrs that German diesel shouldn't be anywhere close to being "worn out".That D358 should easily double that 7000.Those 'Krauts' are some of the longest life engines IH ever built.

I use a 15 footer on my 886. I cut some pretty gnarly stuff and it isn't struggling. It's a good 12 horses less than yours. Now, I do go slower because I like it to cut well. I either cut in third low direct or fourth low TA, so about what you are doing. I know they are rough cut mowers, but I still want to go slow so it looks nice.
