farmall tractor prices have gone down a lot, here in tennessee. a farmall 140 with cultivators brought 1700 at auction. a super a with cultivators brought 950. this is far below what they used to bring. is this happening over the country? these are running tractors.

Yep. the 'old tractor' craze has really cooled off.And the older crowd that bought/used them are dead or dying. The younger crowd isn't intrested and doesnt care.

Back in the spring a 140 with cultivator brought 3300 at FFA farm sale in northeast arkansas. Granted it was a very nice tractor but still brought high price. 4020s are 7k and up here too. Hs, Ms, and those are cheap though.

Not just Farmall but all tractor have come way down. Seems when scrap price went real low so did the price on old tractors.

Picked up a Case VAC a month or so ago for $300 and had it running that same day I got it home

I thought the $1700 was plenty high - the $950 sounds about right. 20 some horse power and a one point hitch - real limited on what you can do with one.

that seems like a decent price for a 140 ready to work. I've seen them go for $4500 to $7500 for a late model (1968-1979) refurbished one.

There are still certain models that bring premium price, like a decent 4020, or a Super MTA, but the prices of more common tractors have really fallen off at auctions.

On private sales, people are still asking for the moon.

That is true but there are some folks out there paying the moon for them too. If it is a good piece of equipment I will gladly pay for it.

I agree that most of the guys that drove the prices up are getting to the point in life where they aren't buying any more or if anything they are downsizing collections. It's not that the younger guys nessicarily don't care, but they don't have the emotional attachment like the previous generation that used them. They only know some of these old tractors as that tractor that sat in the corner of the barn that wasn't to be used or let's face it, too small to even move some of the equipment around the yard.
