National IH Collectors Auction Oct. 14 and 15 in Minnesota

I attended the National Auction on Friday, the auction was suppose to start at 12:00 but the Auctioneer had so many late consignments that he started the auction at 10:30 with late consignment item therefore not even letting some buyer even see what was consigned before it was sold. I consigned a whole bunch of items early and shipped to the auction a few items on tuesday and the Auctioneer knew they were coming, He never even displayed the items in the box, he open the box and put it on the floor, therefore most buyers never seen what was in the box until he auctioned the items off and then he never took the time to explain what the items were, he just sold them choice, I had what told him what they were and what they should sell for. Just to let you know what items were: a 1927 General Catalog...hard cover, 1935 General Catalog...paper cover and a 1946 General Catalog with a loose paper cover, The auctioneer did not do reserves on anything sold on Friday he told me to be there and buy it back, if I did not get what I want for it, so I bot the 3 general catalogs back if I would have not been there they have sold for less then $ 50.00 each, My buy back price for the 27 and 35 was $ 90.00 and the 46 was $ 70.00.....Buyers Guides and sales litature sold way to cheap and toys were a bust ....I will post more later .....Toys like 1/16 farmall cubs NIB for $ 5.00 and 7.00

To be fair, that's pretty much how a farm auction works, and that's pretty much what this was. You can't expect to get preferential treatment in an auction that large.

You also can't blame the auctioneer for starting early with the late consignments. There was probably a cutoff point for consignments on Thursday but these people brought in stuff after the cutoff point, so they get what they get.

It's up to the buyer to dig through the boxes and pallets and know what they're buying.

Auctions also aren't the place to bet premium price for rare or particularly valuable items. Especially now. The market is depressed because a lot of the guys that were paying top dollar for this stuff are passing away and there's a glut of it on the market, not to mention commodity prices are down and the farmers that would buy this stuff don't have a lot of cash to throw around. Even in the best environment you wouldn't get what you think it's worth most of the time. You can sometimes hit the jackpot and meet or exceed your expectations, but normally people bid to leave a little "meat on the bone" so they can resell for the price you think you should have gotten.

I've only had one item sell at consignment that I didn't feel that it was too low. They are a buyers market for the most part. At least around here they are.

Ill give ya 90 for your '27 full line catalog........

There was only one tractor I was really interested in and friend who was there texted me the price when it sold. I thought it was on the high side actually........
