Super h coil

Good Afternoon. I have a Super h that has been converted to 12 volt. I presently have a 6 volt coil on it with a porcelain resistor mounted before
the coil. I need a new coil. Should I put a 12 volt coil on it and remove the resistor or should I put another 6 volt coil on. I plan on putting an
original style coil back on and plan on ordering it from this sight. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Six of one, half dozen of the other... You remove the added connections and points of failure by removing the resistor (GOOD!), but if the person before you cut the wire short, you will have to splice (UGLY!) or run a whole new ignition wire (PAIN!).

Be aware that there are two types of 12V coils. One type still requires the ballast resistor, and the other type does not. They are almost always labeled to that effect.

I will add that the resistor conducts more voltage when cold, and as a result it can aid starting. As it warms, it drops the voltage to 6v or there about. Go with the resistor. A wire with a 5 amp or greater diode can be attached to the starter side of the big starter switch, with the polarity of the diode allowing voltage from the starter circuit and not allowing it to go the other way. This wire then is connected to the coil side of the ballast resistor. Allowing the coil and ignition to have bypass voltage for those winter starts. Jim

Quick answer is no! A condenser for 6 volts will work fine on 12 volts and vice-versa.

In reality ignition condensers DO have a maximum voltage rating - ie. the voltage above which it can break down and go short. However this is typically several hundred volts.

I'm (as usual) with Bob n Jim. SURE they are designed and manufactured with a certain voltage withstand rating even if its NOT shown on the box as they're mostly for 6 or 12 volt ignition use. You will typically NOT see any 6 or 12 volt rating or labelling either as their breakdown voltage is Id guess several hundred volts, so they work on either.
