Is my Mag considered a R or L direction Mag...

Mag is on a 1949 Farmall H...
I found the timing was off on my magneto at the final drive where the rotor gear has (R & L) stamped on it and the small gear has a bevel indentation on one on the teeth.
If the magneto drive gear from the engine has a left rotation and the rotor has a right rotation is this magneto considered a left or right rotation magneto.
I would say it is a right or clockwise rotation magneto because of the rotor rotation but just want to be sure.

Your mag is considered "RH" because looking at the drive end it turns CW or "right".

Has NOTHING to do with the way the rotor turns.

Thanks Bob...
I just wanted to be sure.
Facing the front of the tractor the mag drive turns right and the rotor turns left.
Looking at it from the cap the rotation directions are reversed.

Ok Guys... Got it... I have the mag here at the house, I brought it with me. I got it firing fine on the bench turning it by hand, It's got a nice blue white spark.Tomorrow I'll go stick it in the tractor.
I knew there was something off because a found a post on how to time a mag. In shot #1 TDC, rotor pointing to #1 on cap, install mag. Then rotate the mag all the way towards the engine. Turn engine bring it back to #1 TDC. Then rotate the mag outwards till the impulse snaps and lock the mag down.
When I tried setting mine like the instructions above, I would rotate the mag outward till I ran out of adjustment and the impulse would not snap. That told me that someone had messed with the mag and had gotten the timing off somewhere.
Hopefully everything goes smooth tomorrow... And thank you all for the info...

You cant get the impulse out of time but you can have the rotor out. Make sure the rotor is lined up with the tower on the cap when it snaps.

Has this been a problem right along, or did the magneto "jump time" on you?

Because if it did "jump time" then there is something badly worn or broken. Everything is gear driven, so the only way for it to slip would be if a bushing were beyond worn out, or a tooth is missing from a gear somewhere.

BarnYard...I bought this tractor about 2 years ago...
It's in real good shape.
No the mag did not jump time...
I just happen to check the timing on the rotor gear and saw the little gear was 3 teeth off from the R
mark on the rotor. Both gears are in real good shape...Someone pulled them at one time and did not put them back in the correct position...
