International 230 Windrower

Riversea

Hi There. I hope I am not breaking any rules by asking a question about a Swather on a Tractor site.
I just picked up an IHC 230 that (apparently) has a C - 153 engine. I understand that this engine is similar to the C 153 that has been used in Farmall and IHC Tractors. I think I have see different tune up (timing) specs quoted and I believe one of the 153 models uses a different bore and stroke combination. Further, I viewed a post that called for premium grade fuel and a specific 30 wt oil.
I have searched all over the internet for engine tune up specs, without any luck. I actually invested $20 (which is about $35 Canadian) for a mediocre "download" manual for the 230, only to discover there wasn't any engine information in this manual.
What I am looking for is tune up information specific to the Model 230 Windrower Engine. I need oil type and grade, capacity, spark plus type / heat range, point gap and timing specs. Oil filter (cartridge) number would also be appreciated.
I appreciate any help to my questions.[/i]

If it were mine, and only used in other than cold winter weather, I'd use 15-40 diesel oil.
Shouldn't be too hard to figure out the oil capacity and make note for next time.

Spark plugs factory recommended were Champion RD15Y, moderate service, RD18Y, light service. Gap is 0.025.

Breaker point gap is 0.020".

IIRC, timing pointer is at front crank pulley, I don't have a spec at hand, take a look and see what markings there are.

CARTRIDGE-type oil filter is WIX 51172 or equivalent.

There's a separate manual available for that power unit engine, CIH # 1090323R91. I just checked with dealer (US) and they said it was still available for about $10 plus mailing.

I appreciate you taking the time to send this info.

(quoted from post at 23:16:18 10/10/16) I think i misread that, the C stands for Carbureted engine .

Common to mistake the C152, which is the H engine, and the C153, which is the 330/340/504/swather engine.

Totally different animals.

I`m pretty sure the 330/340/404 used a C-135.I know-it gets confusing !
