Charging question on an A tractor

In recently asked how to get the 6v generator on my A to charge at a lower RPM and one of the answers was to move the 3rd brush.Right now I have to have the tractor running wide open to get it to charge. So my
question is how do I do that. The generator says Dixie electric on it so I don't know if they made it or re manufactured it. I bought it from NAPA. Which brush is the third brush (I'm thinking middle one),
which way should it move - toward tractor or away and how do I move it. I don't see any screws that would let me move any brushes. There are no screws on the end cap like I've read for some generators.

The "third brush" is usually the one NOT immediately 180 across from/opposite the fixed grounded brush.

You increase the output by setting the third brush CLOSER to the fixed brush right next to it.

I've seen small screws on the outside of the base that allow for moving the third brush, but no idea how yours adjusts or
not.

The VR and Genny BOTH need good grounds to work, a good tight belt, and sufficient RPM

See if charging increases if you momentarily dead ground the gennys FLD post?? If so but NOT otherwise, the VR may be bad or mis adjusted or not well grounded.

See of the other good gents here agree or can add to this, but I cant tell you how to adjust it not being there

If there isnt a screw in the end cap you dont have an adjustable brush. So we dont have a clue where the gen has came from where is the regulator mounted.

It sits on top of the generator. I've had the generator at a repair shop and in his shop it charges fine but he is checking it using an electric motor to drive it and its running it at higher RPM's than my A does. It does charge OK with the tractor wide open. I've checked the ground back to the tractor with a meter and from the regulator to the generator and didn't find a grounding problem.
