Transmission farmall c

Hello my name is jack norton I have a 1950 farmall c. My great grandpa bought this tractor new and has given it to me and I promised him to restore it but sad to say he won't be able to see it restored. Anyway my tractor has a problem with the transmission. When I put the tractor in any of the forward gears and I let the catch out it grinds like you wouldn't believe. It is so bad that you can feel it grinding when you let out the clutch. The only thing is that it doesn't do it in reverse. Can anyone tell me what is going on and maybe how to fix it. I had the tractor at a tractor show and it worked great, put it on trailer brought him and I was driving to the shed when it started to do this. I changed the oil in the rear end. And it still does it. I went through and opened it up to see the transmission and I can't find any problems my forks are square and nothing is chipped what should I look for

Yea, I am assuming you are reposting because you didn't get your answer on page 4.

Ok, here is my shot at it. I had a similar issue on my Super C last summer when I was using it. All of a sudden it made a horrific noise when letting the clutch out and trying to move. What I found was quite easy to fix. The clutch main shaft that goes into the transmission (see the attached picture. The guy has his right hand on it) has bolts and straps that hold it together. One of those bolts had backed out allowing the other bolt to carry the load but let the straps fly out into the torque tube. This created the grinding sound. I had to split the tractor at the front of the transmission to get at it, but even with loader I had to deal with, the job wasn't much more than a couple hours.

Sounds like the oil slinger gear in the tranny they can sure make some noises.

Hello Brian I think you may be onto something my transmission seems tight and nothing seems to be wrong except I have one question the bearing on the very rear of the transmission spline shaft I can see daylight through it i was wondering if it was supposed to be like that or not. The bearing is pushed forward so that it's not flush with the metal around it.
