Farmall 230 hydraulic and transmission question.

Hello all,

I recently revived a Farmall 230 that belonged to my grandfather after a decade in a barn and everything works now except my hydraulic system. The piston is stick in the extended position. Now I haven't filled the system up yet. This is just testing done in the brief few minutes we have ran and moved the tractor.

My first question is this: Since the tractor has been sitting for a while and I change the fluid and clean the filter, is there anything I need to do to get the system primed or ready to go?

My second question is about the transmission. I don't have a service manual yet, but I have read that the 230 has a dry clutch. Does that mean I even have a transmission fluid in the tractor? If I do have fluid can I get away with using the SuperTech brand from Walmart? The Heavy Duty one that says it is IH Hy-Trans compliant?

Thank you all for the help and information. I'm trying to learn as I go and keep this beast going as long as I can to pass on to more generations of family.

In the transmission use 85W-140. For the hydraulics use anything that it is listed with IH HyTran. Don't put Hytran in the transmission, that came on newer tractors later.
