What do they grind first

Just curious what do they grind first when both mains and rods are bad ?

I think it depends on what the grinding machine was set up to turn before.

But like Pete 23 was saying, one 806 crankshaft was so bad the timing mark was off,so after they had it centered, it must of slipped some how, but either way the machine shop, should of been liable !

I always did the rods 1st as when the mains were done the whole thing was polished with a fine sanding belt.

Mains 1st, as it is the datum. Then rods, which is in relation to datum.

I can't understand how the timing would change unless a journal was welded 1st.

In the factory, the mains are ground first, then the the pins. The #1 pin is usually the datum for index on the pins. The pins are rough machined
to a index hole located on the flange. But the hole is located from the #1 pin to start with. The index hole is one of the first operations in the
process.
