question for D Slater???

I am thinking of turning a Farmall H into a rear 3 stage fork lift to move and stack round bales. Can I flip the differential over and give an H 5 reverse and one forward? I also thought about hunting up a MW 9 speed to give it a little more speed between 4+5. Think this can be done? Seen many Farmall Bs turned around and used here in west Mi. in the orchards. Thanks,,, Al

I'm not D Slater but yes you can as long as you have a transmission cover with the shifter on the other side. IH had this set up for one row cotton pickers.

I did a SMTA years ago,but had a shop in South Dakota do the shifting mechanism for me, He had done a lot of H"s in that area, It worked good, but you have to remove the gas tank, because that's where u are going to sit, and dont forget about the steering , brakes pedals needs, to be altered too !!

Yes you can move the differential and gear to other side of bevel gear. But as already pointed out a different top cover and shifting forks are needed. Reason forks need moved is the differential gear is then in the standard shift fork space. Didn't look, but probably some pictures on the internet of H and M tractors with a reverse setup. Seen a few special use ones with sprockets and chain steering setups and made up clutch and brake pedals with rods to original pedals. Also with a seat offset to one side with fuel tank in place.
