Farmall Cub 42" Belly Mower Work on Farmall Super A?

Does anyone know if a Farmall Cub 42" Belly Mower can be converted to work on a Farmall Super A? I know the cub pulley and blade runs reverse to a Super A. Is there a 42", 44" or 48" mower designed for a Farmall Super A?

Best Regards,

Well that is a yes no and maybe thing. You have to route the belt differently due to the rotation of the blade. Then you have to have or make the correct linkage etc to mount it.

Thanks Old,
HuMmm.... I have no idea how to do that..... I like the Cub deck better than the Woods L59 mowers. I like the single blade and the fact that it will not stick out past the wheels. If I can figure how to reverse the drive to make the Super A turn it to the right, I believe I can find the Super PTO pulley and idler pulleys.

(quoted from post at 15:39:19 09/30/16) you could grind the back side of the blades.
then it would be a matter of hanging the 42 inch onto the A
Thanks khouse6,
But if the blade runs backwards won't that have an effect on the bolt or bolts that hold the blade on? Won't that cause them to back off and get loose or fall out?

The Woods 42 mower for a Cub usually has an over-running clutch in the spindle, which will not work if you belt it up to run in reverse. It will just sit there and make ratcheting noises.

The Super A version of that mower runs off the belt pulley, because the PTO turns too slowly and there isn't room for a 24" belt pulley on the PTO shaft to make the spindle turn fast enough.

Those are but two of the challenges you face in making it work. It can be done, but it won't be easy and won't involve off the shelf parts.

All you have to do is flip the belt at the PTO pulley. You need the side that when on the cub is on the left on the pulley to be on the right which will make it spin backwards of what it was on the cub.

Thanks BarnyardEngineering,
I know exactly what you mean, I have looked closely at photos of the Super pulleys and the Cub pulley set up.
I am not finding any photos or information about the Super A version of the Cub type mower. Anyone know what brand is setup for the Super A?

I will have to ponder that.

I have an A that has a Woods L59 from an 8N on it.
It has the right brackets - I just wanted to throw the
clippings the other way. I just put a cross in the belt.
I'm 99% sure I have an extra pulley for a Woods
mower that goes on the A belt pulley.

Right now I am trying to find a 42 A mower designed for the Farmall A or Super A. They must be very scarce. The 42C is for the Cub and the 42A fits the Farmall A. I have a L59 for a Super A spotted close by. I am trying to decide between at 42" and a 59".

(quoted from post at 16:37:04 10/03/16) Any Woods dealer would be happy to sell you a brand new one.

We have a couple old woods mowers made for the Super A tractors. They'll need a little work to get going, but yes, it has a totally different mule drive pulley set up. Also, since the Cub turns backwards the A deck spindle is set up differently. Might as well get you one that will work rather than trying to make one work that isn't meant for it. I would sell you one of my used ones cheap........or you could buy a new one at around $2,500 from a dealer.
