986 not getting fuel

986 was sluggish so changed the fuel filters a couple of weeks ago. Ran for an hour or so. Today it acts like it isn't getting fuel

Checked both filters and they are full of fuel. Started and immediately dies.

Loosened the filter vent and pumped the plunger. Nothing comes out of the vent and the plunger has no resistance.

Any ideas/recommendations?

Thanks

Shut off the tank valve, then remove the fuel inlet line at the rear of the supply pump assembly, it's the left, outer line. Now take a small screwdriver and put the tip inside the pump fitting, see if the small spring loaded check valve is stuck closed. It should open and have light spring pressure to push it closed. I've seen several that are stuck to the brass cage it's in, and only free up by bumping them loose. Worth a look as that's how the primer can act when inlet valve sticks shut..

That solved it!

Glad you found it, had a grain truck pump do that this past summer, and same thing on an irrigation pump too. Best clue is the hand primer will not work right. Does not happen often, unless the engine has been setting awhile.
