12 volts are available in that size and it will start better
Just need to reconfigure the battery cables
+to + and -to-
 
Get 3EE's they are 12 volt and it will start better. I have changed all of my IH and John Deere tractors to 12 volt batteries. I don't care what anybody says they will start better. 3EH are the 6 volt, 3EE are the short 12 volt and 3ET is the tall 12 volt. When you have 2 batteries in series (2 - 6 volts) you get the amperage from the weakest battery and voltage from both. 2 batteries in parallel (2-12 volt) you have the amperage from both batteries and have 12 volts.
 
Forget those long skinny batteries as they don't last as long as the others. We went to the group 31's with the stud top. You will thank yourself for going that route. No more problems with the clamps being over tightened, no more problems with the cleaning when they get corroded. And best of all they are easy to get from trucks where they change the set and only one is bad so the others are still good. Makes them cheap.

anyone else have an opinion on this? my 706d 282 needs new batteries also.
 
Replace the dual batteries with a single group 31, installed on the right hand side. It will start better and the battery will hold up longer.

You'll need to modify/fabricate a new battery tray.
