trying to find a miss, so i pulled the rotor cap to recheck my points. points were ok, now she wont fire. the cloth insultation on the wire from the points to the condenser is falling off so im gonna replace it.

new plugs and wires. before i rechecked the points she started right up

about ready to pull the mag and put a 12v dist. on her.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Once a long time ago I couldn't get my M to fire after checking the points turned out I forgot to put the rotor back in. Smart
me.

Sometimes at tractor shows for fun dudes will remove the entire distributor cap then start the tractor, Ive seen them run with the cap off and all its wires still plugged intact, but not very well lol

Check the obvious first, do not change ANYTHING until you find an issue.

I prefer a distributor for the increased performance of the centrifugal advance, but a mag should function just fine.

Mags were a great idea for special applications or
for people like my grandfather who were too cheap
to buy a battery for a rarely used tractor. I think they
are witchcraft and use an otherworldly force to
generate the magic juices necessary for those
machines to run like a normal machine (ignoring
where their special powers come from).

Oh, and I can't help you with that mag business. I
got an extra distributor for you, though.

you need a starting point... how is the compression.? sounds as if the wire is grounding out. there is nothing wrong with a magneto! i prefer them for starting old tractors. dont need any battery. is this wire your talking about the cause off this miss? or presuming?

kinda lost what u mean... but i do know you can remove all the spark plugs on any of the gas start diesels while their running .

You say new plug wires did you use the correct wire plug wires on it?? If you used the plug wires made for cars and truck there is very likely to be part of the problem

found the problem: i replaced the wire from the points to the cond. with new 16ga wire. re checked the points (.013), re checked the plugs (.025), and put every thing back together on #1 tdc....... started right up; however, still got the miss.

after a cup of joe, ill do a compression test.....

i'll keep yall updated

thanks

and Molly too!!!

"kinda lost what u mean..."

I meant they took the distributor cap (all its wires still intact) COMPLETELY OFF THE DISTRIBUTOR and let it hang there in mid air and the tractor still ran.
