A friend of mine found a 4 cylinder IH head in his barn on Saturday. It has the part number 393508R91 on it. Looks like it maybe be a 140 or 240 head, but I'm unable to confirm this. I tried to locate the part number on CaseIH.com but I was unable.

thanks Jim, would you know if there is any difference between a 100 head and 140 head? Looking to put this on a 140 tractor. The 140 currently has a head from a farmall C 251172R2 (and needs a rebuild.) Was hoping that since I need to rebuild the head anyway that this one would have a bit better performance then the C head. Tractor is used for brush mowing and light plowing. Or are they just the same head?

There are revisions between the C head and the 140 head. I have no list, but if it were mine, I would rebuild the 140 head with PC style Valve seals. This assures best performance and reduced oil consumption. The rebuild of the 140 head also lets you get the tractor back in service in a day or less because the head is ready to install as soon as the existing head is removed and the block cleaned. Jim

I didn't go look this up. But in all likelihood the 140 head is higher compression than the C head. That would give the tractor a little more power and efficiency, maybe not noticeable.
