Farmall 560D not getting fuel to injectors

Hello there fellas, I just recently bought a 560 Farmall Diesel. It wasn't running when I bought it but tin was good and rubber was good so I thought I would gamble on it, only paid $1000 for it so didn't think it was too bad might be crazy but theres not many Farmalls in my neck of the woods anyway. The problem I'm having is that the injection pump does is not pumping any fuel to the injectors. I have fuel to the injection pump and I pulled that screen on the injection pump inlet. The hand primer before the filters pressures up that rubber hose very well and I changed the hose also between injection pump and fuel filters and when I pump the primer pump fuel comes out very good. I'm looking for some expertise on this problem and figured this is the best place to look. Thank you in advance. Chris

When did the engine last run, if over a year I'll bet the injection pump has several internal parts stuck from setting with stale fuel, especially if there's any traces of water in the fuel. On the glow plug type engines I pull all six plugs out, make cranking during fuel bleeding much easier. Then when you see air/fuel mist blow out the hole you know there's fuel in the chambers, replace the plugs and start the engine. I just went through a 656 pump that's been setting awhile, it was a mess inside. Worked just fine on the stand after a complete tear down and cleaning..

Nine times out of ten if this tractor hasn't run in a year or more the pump is stuck. If you live in a state that mandates a bio diesel blend then the time frame is much less. Sometimes six months. This pump is ready for a good cleaning and maybe a reseal. 25-30% of all the the pump work that comes through my shop is stuck pumps. It is really common now days. Find a good reputable pump shop and let them work their magic. Make some calls and ask around. reseals don't need to cost big bucks, just make sure to steer clear of the low dough back yard repaired it on my tailgate kind of dudes. Quality takes time, time costs money. 400=450 should get almost anything wrong with a Roosa pump repaired. I have done piles of these and would be glad to help you out if you have trouble finding some one you are comfortable with. Good luck Al 231/757/0064

Thank you guys for your quick response! The guy I bought it from honestly doesn't know when it was run last, so I guess we'll go from there. We have a pretty good pump shop in town or at least they used to be. I removed the little inspection plate on the side of the pump to make sure the pump was actually turning and it is but there was what looked to be water and some sludge coming out as I turned it over.... not much but more then you would like to see in an injection pump. Are these pumps hard to take apart and clean? or is it something I should stay away from? I'm fairly competent mechanically I'm a journeyman Heavy Duty mechanic but haven't had any experience taking these or any injection pump apart. Thaks again

I always crack the lines on the injectors when starting after changing filters to get system primed. You can take the top off the pump to see if the metering valve moves, or is stuck closed.

You might also make sure the manual shut off is working and not suck in the "off" position. Might pull the top off the pump and make sure the pin has travel. If you're getting fuel at the pump and the fuel pin is moving fine and nothing is moving out of the cracked injector lines then I'd look at the pump as has been mentioned.

Ok for sure I will check that fuel shutoff out. The
levers moving on the outside hopefully it's
something simple.

I'd Like to thank you guys! I checked some things out and YES the injection pump fuel shutoff was seized up,actuallly the whole pump was garbage!. I put a used pump on it and still couldn't make it work..... So I fired up the 784 MFWD and got my wife to pull me around the bin yard for almost an hour and low and behold it coughed and belched up a bunch of smoke but it runs like a top now ! Thanks again
