Mowing with a F14

Here is another one of my toys - its a mounted mowing machine on a F14. Haven't used it in years so I put it on to mow under some trees around my hedgerows. I also have a mounted plow I was playing with but had some issues so maybe next year I will get that working right and post a picture - it works from the hydraulic lift on the tractor. Also have cultivators for the tractor. Once you mount something like the mowing machine you can have a new attitude toward fast hitches.

Fast hitch works okay if the prongs aren't bent. I have a Farmall 400 with a fast hitch and a 2 bottom fast hitch plow. To get the latches to seat, you have to push left or right on the rear of the plow. To remove the plow I chained the plow fast hitch frame to a large tree and gently pull it off.

Does the hydraulic unit still work? An F14 tractor with the hydraulic unit is unusual and the first one I've seen. Thanks for post the picture!

I would be interested in seeing some side pictures of that mower. When I was young(late 50's&60's) we had the only IH trailer mower with a straight line gear PTO gear drive around when everyone else had Mounted-Semi mounted Sickle mowers. I have an C-21 Belt drive mower and started looking into it and most of the pit-man stick mowers were C-16,21,24,ect with the belt drive except the old horse mowers with ground drive. This was different in that the PTO ran a straight shaft through a huge spring loaded slip clutch into a straight planitary type gear box and the pittman crank was on the back output shaft.

After much searching though the archives I finally found a picture of a #10 or #12 IHC Sickle mower that came out for the "Regular" or F-20 tractors. It doesn't appear they were "Trailer Mowers" but ours may have been "Farmerized" since they don't look like it would be easy to put on and off. From what I remember most of the parts were interchangable for IHC mowers. After that wore out we got an old "New Idea" trailer mower. I always wondered why we could not have Nice stuff like all the neighbors had?? Any one else had any experence with #10 or #12 Sickle mowers?? Cleddy

Economics played a big role back then and possibly your parents had to be careful with what they had so as not to get over extended. I thought the same thing growing up in the horse drawn era with ground driven mowers, dump rakes and hay loaders.
