I saw a post recently on another site about a loose countershaft nut on a 1486. I know many years ago when I was real young, the countershaft nut fell off on the 1066 we have and ruined a lot of trans parts. I just wondered if there were any indicators of the nut becoming loose? Like maybe a certain noise, or anything to be aware of or looking for? I was only curious because we still have that 1066 and a 1086 and a 1486. All of which are going to be split this winter. The 1066 has needed a TA for years, but we haven't really used it much, the 1086 we bought needing a TA a few years back and we don't use it much either for heavy work, but the 1486 does all of the heavy work, and has developed a tick in the transmission. I eliminated one last year with replacement of the bull shaft bearings, but those covered up this quieter tick, that has seemingly gotten louder. Just wondered what symptoms a loose countershaft nut has?
