Hello everyone I haven't been on here in a while, just got back working on the M here recently and I am in desperate need of some advice on the pto seal for a farmall M. I have ordered three different seals from three different tractor parts companies and have not had any luck finding a seal that fits my pto. All the seals are to big and heck I even tried a farmall super H seal and it was to small has anyone else encountered this problem? I have replaced the seals behind the brake drums and the brake shaft seals so I have fairly good knowledge on how to do it. Attached is a picture of my pto seal and inside diameter measures right at 2 1/4 inches can someone send some words of wisdom my way?
 
Where have you gotten the seals that were the wrong size?

I've never replaced the seal on my M, but a year or so ago I replaced the output bearing and seal on one of my H's. I just went to our local CIH dealer and ordered them. They fit perfectly.

But, that dealer has a couple of older guys on the parts counter that know what they're doing. It's surprising how many parts for older tractors CIH has available if a parts man knows how to look, or takes the time to look.
 
How about this one from YT? If you mean the ID of the housing the seal drives into is 2 1/4" then this looks close. I don't think any M PTO stepped up to 2 1/4" on the shaft the seal lip rides on. I agree with Kevin look for numbers on the old one to cross reference. Or take it to your local auto parts store or "bearing/seal supplier" to measure and find a replacement that way.

Thank you everyone for your advice I finally figured out that I didn't have the metal ring inside the pto housing drove out all the way so the new seals wouldn't fit in correctly, this was operator error on my part not the companies I ordered from thanks again.
