Best way to put duals on a 450

Okay guys, new to this site, looks like a lot of great info here. I have a 1958 450, grandpa left it to me when passed years ago. I am starting a restoration on it as we speak, and I am sure I will have more than a few questions. My dad says they used to have a set of 9 bolt duals for it on original IH hubs, but they have since been sold. I would love to grab a setup like that, basically just for show. My problem is I have only found a couple sets online, and prices are approaching 1000 bucks, so that's not really worth it to me. Is there a more economical way to put duals on it? Any help would be appreciated!

Well yes, but i don't recomend this, there is a thing called band dual's, they put too much weight on the original hub,if the weight is on the outside tire. There is one other alternative and that is to get another set of spoke wheels, from the junk yard, and use them. If you slide the inside tire all the in, there should be enough axle to clamp the 2nd hub to the axle, that would put the weight on the axle and not the center hub, of the inside tire. That would be a lot less money than what u said they want for 9 bolt hubs, Is this some thing you are going to leave on the tractor ? I have a set of 9 bolt hubs , but there not for sale at this time, and please don't go with band dual's.

I should have clarified, I do know about the band dual option, and I have heard that's not a good idea. So there would be enough room to use another set of cast center wheel and hubs? They would stay on the tractor all the time, so I am not worried about being able to remove them easily.

Our M's had the rear wheels flipped dish in,
all the way in on the axle. When we wanted
to put duals on, we have a second set of
hubs, rims and tires that we would just
slide on dished out, and tighten down the
axle clamps.

I've got a set. Hubs do not match, and one needs a little work. Rims might need some cleaning up also. Tires are gone. How far away are you?

I am in Cambridge, IL. How about you? What are you thinking on a price? What type of hubs and rims are they? Don't mind that they need cleaned up, never been afraid of a little work.

Thanks for the info, I believe the 450 and the M both had 2 3/4 axles, so I don't see why that wouldn't work for me. Might be the route I decide to go.

When I first got my SMTA the tires were shot. A guy gave me a set of 9 bolt wheels with hubs for a Massy 44. The hubs had no keyway so I made one. Were same size as SMTA or should be same as your 400

I have 4 sets of band duals on 4 different tractors. From SuperM to 1256. The SM has been dualed for pushing 40 years(In spring, during ground work),706 for
30.. Never had even the slightest issue.Have heard of the occational ploblem, but have never seen any.Since your tractor is
primarily show, put on the band duals and dont worry.

Right here. Back 'in the day' when the 'super' was my #2 horse,he pulled disks, land planes,pulvimulcher............

Southwest Iowa. The hubs are 2 different brands. Don't remember what brand. Price is negotiable.

Because that's the way the tractor was when they used it on the farm, and simply because I have never seen another one in this area dualed up.

keep your eyes out for farm estate auctions or consignment farm sales. clamp on band style duals go really cheap. i picked up a few sets for anywhere from 20 to 80 dollars. got a set of 18.4-34's with good rubber for my w-9 for 55 dollars. last set i got were peterson bolt on duals for an m-sm for 5 dollars.
