Hello I'm new to the tractor game I have a 1974 574 does anyone know the oil capacity.? It's a diesel I'm going to be rewiring it and fixing any new or newly found dead problems lol any advise or known fails would be of help thanks

Makes sure the park brake indicator light
works. If not, someone will inevitably drive
it with the parking brake on, taking the
lining off it, and then plugging stuff up
that you don't want plugged up.

Lower left, as sitting in the seat, below
the shifter. Has a little release lever
under the bottom of the grip and a
ratcheting style pawl to hold the parking
brake on.

That wiring looks like fun. Is yours a
hydro? Most 574's and 674's that I have seen
have the the HiLo F-N-R shifter, and the 1-
2-3-4 shifter directly to the left of the
seat and the park brake lever below them. I
believe there was another style shifter, but
I have never seen on equipped any other way
than the one shown. The pic is from my 674,
pretty much the same thing.

10 Qts with filter. The wiring is a lost cause. The wiring Ih used was that cheap stuff with the cloth that after about 10 years comes off with flexing. It was also that steel wire so it would not work good. We rewired ours so the alternator charges and it starts. Nothing else works. Just fill it up for fuel and check the rad and trans. Has worked this way for years. The park brake is leave it in gear or drop the bucket.
With a loader expect to change spindles often as they break. put all the weight you can stand behind the rear axle to help the spindle problem. We have 18.4-28 on the rear and truck tires on the front. 9.5L-15's 8ply would not take the guff. The Pto clutch needs a gage put on for the oil pressure on the clutch to keep it adjusted if you use it much. We quit using the PTO much after the first clutch replacement. Will grind feed with it about once ever 10 years or so if there is nothing else to use in the yard. The fuel tanks are a rust issue between the tank and fender if left outside much. Ours has sat inside all it;s life and is the original tank with no problems yet. Though it has been off enough to work on the tractor. Clutches will not last long with a loader.
Otherwise a good tractor. Have owned our 574 since 1972 the 674 for about 5 years. Got it used.

Does anyone know where to fill the oil? Is it the dip stick tube? I feel kinda stupid for asking this as there is no cap on the valve cover

Engine fill is the dipstick. The trans is behind the fuel tank the square pipe plug. The trans dip stick is by the heel of your left foot setting on the seat. There is a grease fitting on the pivot point of the park brake lever in behind the plate around it. There ia also a grease fitting on the brake and clutch pedals. There is one on the throw out bearing on the bottom inside of the cover. We use a hose and fitting to get them out to grease without taking the lid off.

(quoted from post at 02:36:41 09/16/16) Thank You Caterpiller guy I have done an oil change it took about 9 liters so if its low after its run a bit I will refill it. I also did a fuel fileter change as well as air filter.. I did a cabin filter change as well as it was clogged and probably original. Now to change the vinyl sides, roof, and wiring fix the floor, re manufacture a step and grease everything up and see how it works from there. As I mentioned before I don't have an emergency brake as the PO removed it and put a plate over it.
I still have to find a front windshield wiper...
